Cytology Lab and Senior Day Care Center inaugurated by District 314
District 314 under the guidance of District Chairman Ms. Mita Sheth (2022-2023) and with Urban Project Chairman Ms. Jyoti Doshi took up two projects. The coordinators Ms. Sunishi Gabhawala, Ms. Shilpa Ajani, Ms. Sangeeta Khetan, Ms. Swati Shirolkar, Ms. Yogeeta Sawale and Ms. Geeta Kulkarni helped in reaching our target donation by coordinating with all the Inner Wheel Clubs in District 314.
Both the projects were inaugurated by Association President Dr. Surjit Kaur on 09.01.2023.
i. Cama and Albless Hospital for Women and Children near CST Station:
This is a Government Hospital which helps women and children from the underprivileged society.
District 314 donated the Cytology Lab and Research Center. All the women will be screened for Cervical Cancer. Timely intervention will help women in prevention and treatment. A Lecture Hall and a Record Keeping Room were also a part of this project. Required equipment was also donated.
Dr. Usha Saraiya – a well known Gynecologist has been offering her services for the last 40 years. She apprised us that through research they have found that Cervical Cancer is a virus, for which a vaccine has been found. Girls between the ages of 9 to 12 will be administered 3 doses of this vaccine, which will help prevent the occurrence of this cancer. And so in another 20 years incidences of Cervical Cancer will disappear.
ii. The Second project was executed at King George V Memorial Trust at Lower Parel. Here, a Senior Day Care Center with a Garden of Tranquility was inaugurated. Senior Day Care Center will help in looking after the aged. Any family can bring their elders who need looking after for the day. There will be programmes to keep them occupied. If requested, they would be picked up and dropped by the Trust. A holistic approach to their well being is planned. Garden of Tranquility will offer them mental peace on the line of Zen Philosophy.
Both the projects are much needed in the city of Mumbai. Thanks to all Inner Wheel Clubs for their magnanimous donation which helped District 314 to achieve this goal. Thanks to Dr. Tushar Palve, Dean of Cama & Albless Hospital and Dr. Eric Borges, Chairman King George V Memorial Trust for their unstinting support.
